A Ouija board, also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a board with letters, numbers, and other symbols printed on it that is used as a tool for communicating with spirits or the afterlife. It typically comes with a planchette, a small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic, that is used to spell out words or answer questions by moving across the board.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the use of Ouija boards and whether they actually work or not. Some people believe that they are a harmless game, while others strongly believe that they can open a portal to the spirit world and invite negative entities into our world.
I was always told to stay away from them, don’t play or touch them, and definitely do not bring one in my home. After reading and researching further (as an adult), I am more convinced to keep it that way. The Smithsonian Magazine online gives a lengthy article all about Ouija Boards and their origin.
Here are a few reasons why I don’t play with a Ouija board:

2. It can be psychologically damaging. The idea of communicating with spirits or the dead (that aren’t my bloodline ancestors) can be very unsettling, and playing with an Ouija board can lead to fear, anxiety, and even trauma.
3. It can invite negative entities into your space. Some believe that the use of a Ouija board can open a door for malevolent spirits to enter our world and cause harm or chaos. These entities may not leave even after the board is put away and linger for years, decades even.
4. It can lead to addiction. Just like any other form of divination or fortune-telling, some people can become addicted to the Ouija board and rely on it for answers and guidance, which can be dangerous and unhealthy.
5. It can create false beliefs and misinformation. Ouija boards are often marketed as a game, but some people may take the information received from the board as truth, leading to false beliefs and misinterpretations of the spiritual world.
